The RV travel world looks different this month. On September 30, 2026, Choice Hotels International announced it would acquire Harvest Hosts, along with Boondockers Welcome, Escapees RV Club, CampScanner, and Brit Stops, in a $130 million all-cash deal that closed on October 1. One of the largest private camping networks in North America is now part of a global hotel franchise.

For many RVers, that news lands with mixed feelings. Membership platforms built around small farms, vineyards, and local businesses are now owned by the same corporate structure that runs thousands of hotel properties. It is a reasonable moment to ask what independence still looks like in RV hospitality, and why it matters.

At CurbNTurf, we have an answer. We are a community-based platform; we are independent, and we plan to stay that way. Here is what that means for the people who use us.

‍

A Different Model from the Ground Up

CurbNTurf was built as a community-based online platform for listing and reserving access to private land for RVs. We connect hosts and landowners with RV travelers looking for unique, interesting, and convenient places to park their rigs. The name says it plainly. “Turf” is the destination property, the serene coastal view, the mountainside acreage, the vineyard, the farm, the ranch. “Curb” is the convenience property, the driveway, the city lot, the urban curbside, the downtown parking space. We think both deserve a place on the map.

That dual focus is not a marketing line. It shapes how our platform works. We welcome self-contained rigs, and we welcome rigs that need hookups. We welcome destination seekers and overnight travelers who just need a safe place between stops. We do not impose a single definition of RV travel on our community.

‍

Free to Download, Free to Use

Our pricing model is one of the clearest ways our independence shows up in practice. The CurbNTurf app is free to download on both the App Store and Google Play. There is no annual membership fee for travelers to search listings, contact hosts, or plan a trip. We operate on a pay-as-you-go model, which means you pay for the stays you actually book, not for the right to look.

For hosts, listing your property is also free. You keep control over your rates, your rules, and your calendar.

Compare that with the subscription-club model that has dominated private-land RV camping over the last decade. Those platforms charge an annual fee before you can see most of their inventory. CurbNTurf flips that. You see what is available first, then decide whether to book.

What Guests Get on the Platform

Our mission is to take the worry out of finding a place to park your rig. The tools we build serve that goal.

Advanced search is the backbone. Tell us your rig type and size, and we surface sites that can handle it. Need Wi-Fi or cell coverage? Filter for it. Looking for privacy, seclusion, adventures, or activities? Our properties can be filtered on those criteria too. The search can be as detailed as you want.

Once you have booked, you get GPS waypoint coordinates with turn-by-turn directions so you can find your site without a wrong turn into a cornfield. You also get a private message channel with your host, so questions about gate codes, best approach, or late arrivals go straight to the person who knows the answer.

The site diversity is the fun part. CurbNTurf listings range from farmland to forest, seascape to cityscape, vacant lot to vast desert sky, riverfront property to suburban curbside. Our 2024 article on boondocking locations noted nearly 1,000 CurbNTurf locations across North America, and our 2026 state-of-the-company report showed 74 percent growth in hosted sites. That mix matters because every RV trip is different.

We also list boondocking sites. CurbNTurf uses the term boondocking to refer to free camping regardless of location, whether that is BLM land, forest service land, other public land, or private land shared by someone who loves it. Anyone can list the boondocking sites they enjoy, and the community grows richer for it.

What Hosts Get on the Platform

Our hosts are the heart of CurbNTurf. If you own land, whether it is a working ranch, a quiet pasture, a vineyard, or just a flat driveway in a town travelers want to visit, you have something RVers need.

The demand is real and growing. More than 500,000 new RVs are sold each year in the United States, and only about 18,000 public and private RV campgrounds exist nationwide. The math does not work. Campground fees have climbed, overcrowding is up, and today’s adventure-seeking traveler is not getting the experience they are paying for. That gap is where private land hosts come in.

Our previous articles have covered the income potential in depth. Hosts across the country can earn anywhere from $4,000 to $40,000 annually, depending on the region, property type, and amenities. Western mountain properties can command premium nightly rates. Florida snowbird spots can fill an entire winter season. Vineyards and farms can add agritourism income to their core businesses.

Just as important as the income is the control. Hosts set their own availability, pricing, and house rules. CurbNTurf gives you the tools to manage listings, communicate with guests, and build a reputation through our rating system. You are not an employee, a franchisee, or a member paying for the privilege of being listed. You are a host, running your spot the way you want to run it.

‍

Community Over Consolidation

The acquisition news in the broader industry raises a fair question. When a hotel chain owns an RV camping network, whose interests come first? Members? Hosts? Shareholders? Those are not always the same.

CurbNTurf’s answer is that our community comes first because our community is who we are. We do not have outside pressure to upsell hotel stays, bundle loyalty points from another business, or steer travelers toward products unrelated to the open road. Our growth comes from more hosts listing great sites and more travelers finding them. That is the whole plan.

Our 2026 roadmap reflects that focus. We are moving to OpenStreetMap for better offline adventure, building new dashboard tools for hosts, and deepening our nationwide network. These are decisions made by a team that answers to the RV community, not to a hotel brand’s quarterly earnings call.

Wilderness within reach. That is the promise, and it still belongs to the community.
