This camping area is named for Government Island. The 3 campsites are part of the Forest Services' 41 designated dispersed sites along the Upper Manistee River. The main access road along the powerline is a snowmobile trail in the winter. Restrictions: As a visitor to the National Forest, you are asked to follow certain rules designed to protect the Forest, natural resources and to provide for public safety of visitors. The guest is required to remove all human and pet waste from the site upon departure of a reservation unless these items are deposited in the provided toilet, sewage connection, and/or dump station. Respect all things and people. No unruly or illegal behavior. Leave site in the same or better condition than when you arrived.
